My Life in Boxes (Or How I Learnt to Pack Up and Live Off a Suitcase)

All boxed up

Firstly, let me apologise for the very sporadic updates these past few weeks, this is the reason for it. My wife and I are in the process of packing up all our worldly possessions into hijacked cardboard boxes and makeshift bags, selling the car, tying up countless loose ends.

Is the process painful? Rather. I wouldn’t wish packing up and moving on my enemies. Being a natural hoarder does not help the process one bit.

The reason for The Big Pack™?

In less than a month, we’ll be embarking on a big adventure, a life reset, a delayed gap year, some well deserved escapism, or as my friends call it, a cop-out. Like intrepid explorers, we’ll be tramping through the savannahs of Africa, bashing through the jungles of the Amazon and exploring ancient Mayan ruins. Or maybe we’ll just be on a guided ‘Jungle Tour’ being eaten alive by mosquitoes and slathering sunblock on ourselves. Sort of reminds me of the Calvin and Hobbs comics I used to read when I was younger, where the two of them would always run off (albeit mostly only in their imaginations!) on grand escapades.

The great migration of wildebeest in Tanzania? Check. ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ otherwise known as Victoria Falls? Check. Whale watching in Cape Town? Check. Chilling on Copacabana Beach? Check. Steak in Buenos Aires? Check. The Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia? Check. The largest salt flat and mirror in the world, Salar de Uyuni? Check. Checking out what Darwin was on about in the Galapagos? Check. Photographing vintage cars in Havana? Check….

But before all these, its back to the packing.
